Publication - Journal of Computational Biology For many of us doing research related to molecular computation there has been uncertainty concerning an appropriate journal in which to publish. In order to help resolve this problem, I have become an associate editor of the Journal of Computational Biology (JCB) and have arranged with the Editor-in-Chief, Mike Waterman, for the Journal to act as a forum for papers in molecular computation and related areas. This approach has a number of advantages: 1. The JCB has an impressive collection of editors (see below) and past contributors (see web site at: www- hto.usc.edu/jcb). 2. The JCB already acts as a forum for research closely related to our own. Presumably researchers in our area will have interest in and appreciation for the research of computational biologists and vice versa. 3. The JCB is aware of the interdisciplinary nature of research related to molecular computation and, at least in principle, will be interested in publishing quality papers in areas ranging from pure theory to laboratory experimentation. This approach has at least one disadvantage: 1. JCB is a relatively new journal and hence is not currently available in all university libraries. I would hope and expect this situation to change with time.
