previous Folding DNA into nanostructures

Inspired by Paul Rothemund’s work on DNA origami, we designed and constructed a nanoscale structure in the shape of a China map, folded from a long single-stranded DNA virus genome and over 200 synthesized short strands. We developed software that can generate DNA sequences for folding DNA origami into any desired shape. Our work became the first independent implementation of the DNA origami technique, which has now been widely adopted. We also explored mechanisms to build three-dimensional nanostructures, as well as using DNA nanostructure as a template to build conducting devices. Further work developed the use of this China-map-shaped DNA origami as a solution-phased DNA chip.
